It’s coming soon!  The VFW National Home for Children’s annual Awareness Week is March 21 – 27, 2010.  We would like to fill you in on what is planned and how VFW and Ladies Auxiliary Department leadership can help.

Awareness Week is a time to learn how the National Home partners with the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary to help veteran and military families.  It’s a time for people across the country to use the wonderful resource - your National Home - to help these families.  It’s a time to memorize the National Home Helpline number (800-313-4200) to give to those that may benefit from talking with the National Home.

The National Home Helpline can help Posts and Auxiliaries across the country help others - right in their own community.  In 2009 in our campus programs and through the National Home Helpline, we  provided services to veterans and their families in 32 different states!  This is the message we ask you to share with all of the members of your Department.

We have some materials that will help.  Go to www.vfwnationalhome.org/awareness to download a Press Release, a speech, pre-written text for emails, a graphic to put on your Post and Auxiliary websites and instructions on the fundraising contest.  New versions of the National Home Helpline card and poster will be available in late January.  We’ll send another email to let you know when they are available, so you can request these materials be mailed to you.

Speaking of the fundraising contest, there will be a contest for anyone to participate in to raise money online for the National Home.  The person that raises the most money via the online system through March 31, 2010 wins the right to be called the “2011 Awareness Week Honorary Chairman” for the 2011 Awareness Week year?  They will receive a National Home shirt with their embroidered name and honorary title.  And their name and title will be used on official 2011 Awareness Week communications (such as an email like this, for example).  Details are at www.vfwnationalhome.org/awareness.

This is the first Awareness Week fundraising contest and the goal is to raise $5,000 by March 31st , 2010.

We count on you and all Department leadership to get this message to Posts, Auxiliaries and members in your Department.  To save on costs, Awareness Week materials will not be mailed to Posts and Auxiliaries.  Since we don’t have most of their email addresses, we need your help.  Please pass the Awareness Week message on to them any way you can!

Please send us Post and Auxiliary email addresses by replying to this email and we’ll send them all of this information directly!

Thank you for your help!
